I love and appreciate the perspective and wisdom of older generations, especially how they choose to put there energy and focus. I think of it often in challenging times; when stress comes in that's uninvited.
I posted this across my social media platforms, texted it to friends, and shared it with my family. The replies, support, and love I received fueled me with the power of connection, strengthened my resilience, dialed into my PMA and
radiated light. Laughter really helps! Filled me with so much gratitude,
thank you. 💛
He called my dad a "schmuck," the one who shall not be named
In his book (which ofc he didn't write himself)...
My dad cared about the city of New York, it's people and communities.
The one who shall not be named didn't operate that way.
They both were real estate developers in NYC (and my dad was in Chicago, too)
Though my dad was the good kind as I like to say.
He created communities, utilized land use in beneficial ways to serve more than himself
He had compassion for others
He was very successful self-made man...
The other inherited 300 million dollars from his father and went bankrupt.
No, I never read the book... why would I?
The language I would use now is…
How would that serve me? It wouldn't.
So you see when the one who shall not be mentioned was on the ticket the first time I was dismayed, shocked, upset, no way‼️
He would win.
And now this time ⁉️
For him to be on the
ticket again and
be voted in ⁉️
WTF
My dad passed away suddenly
19 years ago so he wasn't
here on earth for any of
this asinine debacle
This isn't a political post btw
We're beyond that imo (in my opinion ;)
Before I posted about life, self-care or living alcohol-free, I wanted to share
Character matters
Compassion matters
Democracy as I know it matters
The list goes on and on
It's a personal story that's a small part of the fabric of my life but
one that might be worth writing a little more about in my book someday
It's clear to me who the “schmuck” is and that's not the word I’d choose.
A leader to me is one with
integrity
character
offers hope
We are stronger together 🙌

PS - My dad taught me PMA when I was a kiddo! Forever grateful for our relationship and how my parents' values, story, character, principles, and love formed my foundation.
What I Did the Day After the Election:
Lemon water. It's a go-to for me. Has been for years.
It's simple, it's quick.
Instant stress relief for me. I love crushed ice too!
Though I hadn’t thought about it yet when on the phone with my oldest. I had already cried, went through a million emotions—anger, grief, disbelief. Dropped off my youngest at high school (20 mins away), unpacked it with her as much as we could, then came home and called my oldest.
He had texted, “looking at places in Canada?” Lemon water has been a little thing between us. About 10 years ago, there was a very stressful situation, and he heard me on the phone. He was around 10 years old. He ran into the kitchen and made me lemon water, garnished it, and everything.
Such a sweet moment...when he got into it as a teenager "mom you might need a lemon water" teeing up whatever situation it was. After our chat about the results he texted "Have some lemon water on me"
It's important to have little acts of self-care. Especially when sh!t hits the fan.
The election was definitely one of those times I am so glad I am living alcohol-free.
It really helps.
Other Things I Did the Day After the Election:
Had my quiet time first thing - sat with all of my emotions
Walked in nature twice
Played paddle tennis outside with friends that night
Talked with family
Canceled an appointment
Rescheduled another one
Didn’t engage with media of any kind
And I didn’t think a drink would help.
Which is so freakin’ awesome!
Alcohol is not worth it. We are.
Our health is.
This work is worth it.
No matter what is happening. Alcohol really won't help in the long run.
The Weekend After:
Two Nights in Woodstock, VT, at a Yoga Retreat. Perfect timing.
And Now…Mindful Choices to Lower Stress
I’m making sure that I am doing things that lower my stress and help regulate my nervous system.
I’m keeping close to family and friends, leaning into my go-to’s like exercise, stretching, and nature.
I’m not engaging with news or topics that are out of my control right now.
I’m petting my dog and cat, hugging a little longer, taking lots of deep breaths, and putting energy and time into what I can control.
Including LAF: Living Alcohol-Free Nothing that a drink could help. That would only take away and diminish my light and authenticity. Plus, I don’t want one—and with the knowledge I have now, no way!
LAF is 100% for me, and maybe it is for you too.
Cheers with my lemon water! 🍋
